“A group of watchmaking pros have combined all their desires into a new brand of mechanical watches. Its name refers to one of the characteristics that makes the people of Chaux-de-Fonds proud: a certain height.” “Six watchmakers claim height by creating a new, purely Chaux-de-Fonds watch brand: H992. “H as in Horlogerie, H as in Heure, H as in the 992-meter height of the town where I was born”, reads a press release issued today. 992 meters is, more precisely, the altitude of the town at the site of the Grande Fontaine. The new brand promises to produce limited series of 992 pieces, sold at 992 francs, i.e. in the top price range for Swiss-made mechanical watches. The mechanical timepiece takes on angular contours for a sporty chic shape in keeping with the classic canons of contemporary watchmaking. Its Sellita SW 260-1 movement, with hour, minute and small seconds functions, is certified by the Chaux-de-Fonds offices of the Cosc (Contrôle officiel suisse des chronomètres, which requires a maximum precision of plus or minus 6 seconds per day). The team behind the project is made up of seasoned professionals from design, sales, industry and graphics, who wish to remain discreet so as not to create conflicts of interest with their clients. Referring to the French electro group who always appear in public wearing helmets, one of them says, “We’re like Daft Punk, and we put the product forward rather than the people. The H922 is available in several colors with steel or rubber straps, and has a diameter of 42 millimeters. The idea is to introduce new models in the near future, in particular a 44 mm chronograph.”
